WE just caught up on this disturbing story on the ABC from Queensland with that state’s health authorities warning about the dangers of acid tattoo removal.
For those not familiar with the discredited practice, it involves dipping a tattoo needle in acid instead of ink and hoping that breaks down the ink.
The problem is the technique often leads to infections and other complications and is of dubious effectiveness.
The ABC story says the health ombudsman in Queensland has already had complaints:
“There have been other people who have developed infections, there’s also been risks of altering the pigmentation of the skin.
“It is concerning – I understand that the health ombudsman’s had a number of complaints.”
